MoCCA Fest 2025!

Last weekend I organized and staffed the table for SVA MFA Visual Narrative at MoCCA Fest alongside current students and alumni!

When I got the job at SVA I had never even heard of MoCCA (a shame, I know)! But just in case you don’t know what it is either you can check it out here. In the orgs own words...

“MoCCA Fest is NYC’s largest independent comics and cartoon festival”

Apparently I’ve been living under a rock.

What I liked the most about MoCCA was that unlike other art sales I’ve been to, the focus was on comics, books, zines, etc. I’ve been growing my collection feverishly (which I’ll have to show you all sometime) so this really opened the floodgates!

I bought a lot of little goodies but I wanted to share 2 books that I’d been lusting after for a while now that I was able to pick up!

I bought Dreaming in Color by Natalie Andrewson and Witchcraft & Melancholia by Loïc Locatelli-Kournwsky, both of these books are published by Peow2. I already started diving in and they are extremely tasty! I can’t believe how much work has gone into both and that I get to look at it whenever I want!

I have not thought about art fairs much since college but after attending, this makes me want to work up to joining one! MoCCA 2026 anyone?

Having been in New York for only 3 months my creative community has already grown so much! Here are some really cool events/community meet-ups that I’ve either been to or plan to go!

  • MoCCA Fest (NYC)

  • NYC Comics/Cartoonist Meetup — this is a monthly event run by friend and MFAVN Alumni/Faculty Olivia Li, It’s so chill and fun! The next meetup is Monday March 24th, 7-10pm @ Bat Haus

  • SPX, Small Press Expo (Bethesda, MD) in September 2025

  • MICE, The Massachusetts Independent Comics Expo (Boston) in December 2025

  • SVA RisoLab — Very cool riso resource (risource?) run by amazing folks :)

  • Secret Riso Club — technically not an event but just a super cool spot that hosts events and workshops regularly!

  • Artifice NYC — shameless plug for an art and tech non-profit my partner helps run and designs for. ARTIFICE 004 will be taking place Saturday April 5th, 4-10pm and you can get tickets here!

I hope to see you around at any one of these! Let me know if you have any other recommendations and I’ll keep sharing my finds!
